I was harassed endlessly in high school. It isn't easy being tall and smart in a place where the most people expect of you is to go to the local community college. I am a naturally strong person who isn't very sensitive, but my brother didn't fair so well. I can't help but look at my kids and wonder how they are going to respond to bullying. I can't control what goes on outside the home, but i hope to God, that I can be the rock that my kids need when things get tough.

An age-old dilemma for parents! I well remember going through these scenarios with you and your sisters. Bullies were a real problem then, as they still are. I think your advice is sound, and knowing these problems are very troubling for a parent is why I pray so much for you and my grandchildren.

Your advice to your daughter is right on. A few years ago my son suffered at the hands of a bully he now has a scar in the middle of his forehead from the encounter he fought back as best he could in the end we let him decide the course of action we took. He decided the mature , christen , legal way take the bully to court (he was about 12 or 13 at the time) he said if it would stop the bully from picking on someone else he wanted to do it. (his older sister's said they would have took care of the bully the old fashion way with fist) the thing is he bears no ill feelings toward the kid who did this he is still the same easy going kid he always was. I think he handled it better than I would have.
