About
I’m a harried, 39-year-old working mom who desperately wants an Alice to manage our … er … lively household. (Let’s just say that dinner hour at the Frye abode could be considered a 100-percent effective form of contraception.) I rely heavily on humor in my accounts of a crazy-busy life with two young children, ages 6 and 4, two stepteens, a full-time newspaper job and a redneck husband. Let’s put it this way — Carol Brady I am not. And, sadly, we can’t afford my longed-for Alice. Aside from mommying, my primary job is reporting for the newsroom’s projects team. I also am a co-columnist of Forces of Nurture, which appears in the Democrat-Gazette’s Family section. I, along with Cindy Murphy (Mom on a Wire), am one of the co-editors of Little Rock Mamas. And now, to make things easier on you, I present the Arkie Mama cast:
- Hubs, photojournalist and love of my life
- Ty, my 18-year-old stepson
- Cece, my 17-year-old stepdaughter
- Tootie, my 6-year-old-daughter
- The E-man, my 4-year-old son, aka Destructor
Cathy Frye

Meet Cathy Frye — deer widow, mama to two small children and stepmom to two teenagers. By day, she writes for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. By night, she Googles things like “whooping cough symptoms” or “child ate toothpaste.” Cathy describes herself as barefoot, breeding and medicated. Her husband considers her a real catch!
